What is Shotcrete?

Shotcrete refers to a method of spraying concrete, where concrete or mortar is sprayed onto a surface with high pressure through a nozzle. This method is primarily used in tunnel construction, stabilizing stone walls, and building concrete structures.

Shotcrete offers numerous advantages compared to traditional concrete pouring methods due to its high adhesiveness and the lack of the need for formwork.

Shotcrete machines are divided into two main types: dry spraying and wet spraying. In dry spraying machines, a dry mixture of cement and aggregates is sent to the nozzle, where it is combined with water and sprayed at the same moment. In contrast, in wet spraying machines, the ready-mix concrete is combined with water before entering the nozzle and then sprayed onto the desired surface using air pressure.

Dry shotcrete is typically used in situations where control over the amount of water is required or when working in hard-to-reach locations. This method produces more dust and may result in greater material wastage. In contrast, wet shotcrete, where the concrete is pre-mixed, offers higher adhesion and quality, produces less dust, and is more suitable for executing more precise projects, such as concrete coatings.

The screed method is a modern flooring technique that uses mechanized machines to mix the mortar evenly, which is then transferred to the site via a hose. This method increases the speed of execution, ensures level surfaces, and reduces the consumption of materials such as cement and tile adhesive. Screed does not require formwork or reinforcement and creates a surface with high compressive strength. For this reason, it is widely used in modern and large-scale projects.
